Candidate for the position of Treasurer

Affiliated with Keller Williams Realty

  • How long have you been a member of CAR?

    • I have been a member of CAR since January 1988.

  • In the past 3 years, what have you done to improve your skills as a real estate professional?

    • I obtained my Broker’s License in 2016 and although I have had my CRS Designation for over 15 years, my ABR for over 20 years and my GRI for over 25 years – I also added the CMA & MRP over the past year.

  • What is your history of service to the association and its members (committees, events, etc.)?

    • I have served as the President in 2005 & 2013, am currently the Chair Person for the Professional Development Committee (and Education is one of my passions, because you are never too old to learn something).

I have been the Chair Person for the Strategic Planning Committee and the Business & Development Committee and am currently serving on the Budget & Finance Committee, the Grievance Committee, the RPAC Committee and am also the Liaison for the Helping Hands Committee.

I was also the Chair of the Interior Design Committee when we moved from the converted garage on Madison Street to our current building.

I have previously served on the Governmental Affairs Committee, the Entertainment Committee, the Merger Task Force as well as on the TN Realtors Forms Committee for 4 years and the Convention Committee for 1 year. I have attended all the events related to these Committees and have also attended the TR (TAR) Spring & Fall Conferences for the past 15 years as well as several Annual NAR Conventions.

AND YES – I HAVE ALSO BEEN LISTING & SELLING HOUSES FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS !!

I took a break from the Committees in 2009, but was elected Treasurer in 2010 – and more about that year in a few minutes….

  • Why do you serve at the association?

    • I want to serve the Association as I believe that I have the skills, knowledge and experience to make decisions that are beneficial for all the members - and unite all the generations to work towards a common goal – to serve our clients in a professional manner.

  • Why do you want to be Treasurer?

    • I was elected as a Treasurer of C.A.R. in the past, however, the situation I was confronted with (embezzlement by the previous AE) did not allow me to serve in that position as it was intended. I spent many hours over a period of several months paying our bills manually, sorting through 15 months of bills, receipts and bank statements, talking to our creditors, cleaning up and setting up new accounts with the assistance of S,R & H, meeting with our attorney, the DA’s office and finally going to Court.

Although this was a rather unfortunate situation, it did help the Association by removing, renegotiating and re-establishing new accounts as well as a new budget - and new protocols which will not allow this to happen again.

This time I would like to serve in that position as it was meant to be and review and approve the spending of the monies entrusted in C.A.R. by our members. With the tremendous growth of our membership, I hope to be able to allocate additional funds towards Professional Development.

  • What do you feel are your strongest attributes that you will bring to the table if elected?

    • My background with the various Committees of Association should speak for itself, but I also consider my Math Degree and experience in Accounting my strongest attributes.

  • What are your leadership goals you bring to CAR if you win your position?

    • As a Leader, you will have to make decisions for the benefit of all the members not just a selected group - and it means always looking at things from different perspectives. It requires commitment, open mindedness and communication and a lot of understanding of the various needs of the membership – as well as being able to handle different opinions and criticism. As a Leader, it is very important to listen – and not just speak (which is challenging for me at times…).

  • Any additional statement or information.

    • I greatly appreciate the trust and confidence in me that so many of you have shown over the years – and am hoping for your continued support. Thank you all so much.
